Frequently asked questions

Honest answers — because the right one usually starts with “it depends”.

What makes IDA different from other companies?
We believe our personalised approach sets us apart. Rather than generic services, we tailor everything to our clients' needs, meeting expectations on projects of any size.
Our goal is to deliver maximum quality in every project. But how?
Because the IDA team has collected extensive aerospace expertise, we deliver high-quality results that precisely meet your needs and expectations. See our LinkedIn for more on our experience.
What is your project approach?
We meet to discuss where you need support, then create a proposal (scope of work, estimated manpower, expectations and time frame) — at no cost or obligation. After a project starts you can terminate at any time and for any reason; only monies for work performed to date will be owed.
How long does a project take?
Our proposal includes a time-frame estimate based on the scope of work. These can range from one week to years.
How much will it cost?
It depends… on your preference. We can agree an hourly rate and only charge the time actually worked, or agree a fixed work package and price up front. Either way, we keep you informed about the progress of your project.
What if the result is not satisfactory?
The key to success is sound planning: a clear definition of requirements, close follow-up with the customer, and full dedication and thoroughness. The project is not closed until the customer is satisfied as agreed in the kick-off. This is what we are here for!
How are we going to communicate?
Fluid communication between all actors is essential. We plan periodic status reviews with technical iterations according to your needs, and adapt to the level of autonomous work you expect from us.
Can you send the engineer on-site?
Absolutely. Our team is keen on visiting customer offices and workshops — that's where the action happens. The percentage of on-site working time can be agreed before the project; travel and subsistence are quoted separately or included in the hourly rate.
How do we know if you can help us?
Feel free to call us or drop us a note. We'll give you honest feedback on if and how we can help. Just as our company name reflects: it depends… on your needs!
Do you have experience with my product?
We have worked on a wide variety of aerospace products including aircraft, rotorcraft, electric propulsion, electronic and mechanical systems, among others. If your technical challenge is very specific, just reach out.
What level of experience do your engineers have?
IDA was founded by a group of aerospace enthusiasts who have worked for decades in aerospace. We pride ourselves on matching our engineers' skill sets to the project requirements on every project.
How do you keep up-to-date with the latest developments in aerospace?
Our team is represented in working groups across EUROCAE and SAE. Active participation ensures we contribute to the latest standards and exchange with industry. IDA is represented in:
  • EUROCAE WG-63 — Complex Aircraft Systems
  • EUROCAE WG-72 — Aeronautical Systems Security
  • EUROCAE WG-112 — Vertical Take-off and Landing (VTOL)
  • EUROCAE WG-113 — Hybrid Electric Propulsion
  • EUROCAE WG-127 — Lower Risk Aviation Applications
How can my design benefit from System Safety?
System Safety emphasises 'building in safety' rather than adding it to a finished design. It looks at the system as a whole — including interactions among components — with emphasis on hazard analysis and design to eliminate or control hazards. Our expertise in complex systems and ARP-4761A supports successful certification and reduces the cost of late re-design.
My product is extremely reliable, so it is also safe, right?
Safety is not to be confused with reliability — a reliable product is not necessarily safe, and vice versa. Achieving an acceptable level of safety requires both qualitative and quantitative techniques per ARP-4761A, and we support both.
