Overview

At It Depends Aero GmbH, we provide comprehensive certification support across the entire product lifecycle, ensuring full compliance with EASA Part 21 and related regulatory frameworks. Our experienced team combines deep technical expertise with pragmatic project execution to help our customers achieve efficient, compliant, and predictable certification outcomes.

Part 21 and Regulatory Expertise

We offer tailored services in accordance with EASA Part 21 Subpart J and G, supporting Design Organisations (DOA).

EASA Certification Specifications

Our engineers and certification experts have extensive experience with EASA Certification Specifications, including:

  • CS-23 - Normal, Utility, Aerobatic and Commuter Aeroplanes
  • CS-25 - Large Aeroplanes
  • CS-27 - Small Rotorcraft
  • CS-29 - Large Rotorcraft
  • CS-E - Engines
  • CS-P - Propeller
  • Special Conditions (SC) including SC-EHPS (Electrical and Hybrid Propulsion Systems) and SC-VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing Aircraft)
EASA Certification Memoranda

We apply the latest EASA Certification Memoranda, including:

  • CM–SWCEH–001 – Development Assurance of Airborne Electronic Hardware and Software
  • CM–DASA–002 – Development Assurance Considerations in Product Certification

Our methods and tools are continuously updated to reflect evolving EASA policies and harmonization with FAA/TCCA guidance.

Certification Planning and Compliance

We support our customers in preparing and coordinating all required certification artefacts, including:

Our systematic approach helps reduce certification risk while maintaining full traceability to regulatory and design assurance objectives.

Military Airworthiness and Regulatory Expertise

IDA also provides certification support for military air systems, applying the same rigor and structured approach used in civil certification. Our engineers are familiar with European Military Airworthiness Requirements (EMARs) and national frameworks such as German LufABw (Luftfahrtamt der Bundeswehr), UK MAA, and NATO STANAG 4671 for unmanned and fixed-wing platforms. We can support organizations in aligning their processes and documentation with EMAR 21 (Design and Production Organisation Approval) requirements.

Military Certification Planning and Compliance

IDA assists customers in developing and coordinating military certification artefacts, including Certification Plans, Airworthiness Strategies, and Compliance Checklists in accordance with national military authorities. We can support the definition of Means of Compliance, preparation of Type Record Files, and coordination of Technical Airworthiness Reviews or Military Flight Releases (MFR). For projects involving novel or dual-use technologies — such as hybrid-electric propulsion, UAS, or mission equipment integration — IDA helps translate civil certification principles (Part 21, ARP-4754B/ARP-4761A) into defence-appropriate assurance frameworks.

Certification Verification Engineer Support

We provide qualified Compliance Verification Engineers (CVEs) across multiple domains, including:

Our CVEs can act independently within your DOA framework or mentor your internal engineering staff to develop and maintain compliance expertise.

Process and Capability Support

We perform process gap analyses and compliance readiness assessments for organisations seeking alignment with EASA Part 21 and Part-IS requirements. Our support includes:

We also provide independent compliance audits and supplier certification readiness reviews, ensuring objective oversight and continuous improvement of certification systems.

Mentoring and Training

We deliver mentoring and training programs covering:

Training can be customised to your organisational processes or to support the establishment of new Design Organisation privileges.

Representation in the DOH and Authority Interface

We can act as your representative within the Design Organisation Handbook (DOH), supporting:

This ensures effective communication with authorities and consistent demonstration of compliance across all project phases.

Model-Based and Digital Certification

We support the integration of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Model-Based Safety Analysis (MBSA) into certification processes. Our team is experienced with tools such as Capella, Cameo, and Rhapsody, and can help establish digital compliance management systems using DOORS, Polarion, or Jama for requirements traceability and compliance tracking.
